Graduate students:
There are several positions available for prospective or current students. We draw students from multiple programs, including Physics and Applied Physics. (At Caltech, you have the option to work with an advisor outside of your home department.) Current graduate students interested in working in our group are encouraged to reach out via email. Prospective students interested in working in our group are advised to add corresponding language towards the end of their personal statements, as part of their graduate school application. Note that acceptance to a graduate program is entirely handled and decided by the respective admission committee. For more information, see here: https://qse.caltech.edu/qseopportunities/graduate
Postdoc positions:
We are always looking for talented postdocs. Starting dates are generally flexible. Funding is provided via existing grants and/or through fellowships. Relevant Caltech-based fellowships for the 2023/2024 cycle are:
EXP Fellowships in Experimental Physics and Astrophysics (deadline Nov 15, 2023)
IQIM Postdoctoral Scholars (deadline Nov 15, 2023)
AWS Quantum Postdoctoral Scholars (deadline Nov 15, 2023)
Prospective postdocs are strongly encouraged to apply to all three fellowships. (AcademicJobsOnline allows for reuse of letters to facilitate this.) It's typically best to write an email to discuss the application and position before applying, but this is not mandatory.
Research internships, international students, Master's thesis, gap years ... :
We have several interesting projects suitable for multi-month or year-long research internships, e.g. for an external Master's thesis, Honors thesis, or a gap year. Interested students, from Caltech or elsewhere, should simply write an email email. Full admission to Caltech is usually not necessary and visits can be arranged on an individual basis. For more information, see here: https://qse.caltech.edu/qseopportunities/visiting-students
Undergraduate research:
There are exciting opportunities for undergraduate research for pay, for credit, or for a senior thesis. For more information, see here: https://qse.caltech.edu/qseopportunities/undergrad
