Graduate students:
There are positions available for prospective or current students. Don't hesitate to write an email if you are interested in more details or if you have questions! Note, however, that a commitment to joining our group can only be made after formal admittance into a Caltech graduate program. We have students in our group from both Physics and Applied Physics, and we advise students to make an informed decision concerning which program to apply to based on their background and interests. (Working with advisors outside your 'home department' is very easy and common at Caltech.) Admittance to these programs is entirely handled and decided by the respective admission committees and not by Manuel. Applying students interested in working in our group are advised to add corresponding language towards the end of their personal statement.
Postdoc positions:
There is currently one open position with a flexible start date. Potential candidates are encouraged to reach out informally by contacting Manuel via email.
Applicants are encouraged to apply to Caltech-based fellowships (see below) or other external funding sources. Internal funding is available in case fellowship applications fall through.
Fellowship options at Caltech:
1) Postdoctoral Prize Fellowships in Experimental Physics or Astrophysics: typical deadline in Nov. Three year fellowship. Official start date is Fall 2021 (but can be moved to Summer or Spring 2021 if needed).
2) IQIM postdoctoral scholarship: typical deadline in Nov. Two or three year fellowships. Start date flexible.
Research internships/international students/Master's thesis ... :
We have several interesting projects suitable for conducting a Master/Diploma thesis or research internships. Non-Caltech or international students interested should simply write an email. Full admission to Caltech is usually not necessary and visits can be arranged on an individual basis. We specifically encourage international students interested in conducting multi-month research projects, for example for a thesis, to reach out.
Undergraduate research:
There are exciting opportunities for undergraduate research for pay, for credit, or for a senior thesis. Also, check out the new QuantumSURF initiative:
